Why a Think Tank in SoCal?
Surreal Life in SoCal
People living in Inglewood seem to have an inordinate amount of critical issues to face daily. iThinkTank (iTT) was formed to study and address some of these many critical issues facing the residents, businesses, organizations and communities of Southern California (SoCal).
World Leader
SoCal leads the world in many areas, most of which are positive, but some are negative. Often referred to as the “Entertainment Capitol of the World” it has also been the technological leader on many other fronts. These include: Aerospace, Medical Research, Information Technology, and Clean Energy.
Sadly, Los Angeles County is also tagged with other monikers, "The Gang Capitol of the World" and "The Capitol of Homelessness." Street Gangs founded in Los Angeles have now expanded, and spread to virtually every major city throughout the US. Some branches of these gangs are even popping up in foreign countries. The Los Angeles region is also referred to as "The Capitol of Homelessness," because it is thought to have the largest concentration of homeless persons in the country.
SoCal residents do their best to take life's challenges in their stride, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to do so. Day-to-day life has never been more complex and unfathomable, and to make matters worse, it is constantly changing. At times, living here in SoCal is like living on the set of one of Hollywood's Science Fiction movies. However, reality here is stranger than fiction. If a screenwriter submitted a script which included what actually happens daily in SoCal, he would be laughed out of the Producers office. It is too unbelievable.
Would you believe that:
Just last week the Managers of our beloved Dodger Stadium, working together with L.A.P.D. were forced to turn the Stadium into a virtual armed camp, to try to regain control of the Stadium from roaming violent gang-members.
In just the last few years we have experienced: a huge downturn in our economy, high priced fuel, a lack of jobs, confusing technological advances, changes to our many cultures, the crash of Wall Street, the collapse of many banks, and our auto, mortgage and housing industries, increased taxes, deteriorating infrastructure, major family and community issues, educational challenges, severe health issues like obesity, asthma and other breathing difficulties, political influence and corruption issues, seemingly endless governmental regulations, Mayors and entire City Councils being under investigation or being arrested, our LAPD posting 160 photographs of possible victims of one man, the "Grim Sleeper," Federal Agencies working with 1,400 law enforcement officers during "Operation Knockout" in Hawaiian Gardens to arrest 150 Gang Members in one night, for Race-based attacks classified as "Ethnic Cleansing," teachers, police and firemen being laid off, bewildering immigration issues, the constant threat of terrorism, earthquakes, Tsunami's, and now radioactive fallout, insidious identity theft scams, constant hack-attacks on our personal, corporate, and government computer networks, large numbers of male and female child sex-slaves being openly marketed on Craig's List, "regular" street gang activity, the shutting down of scores of California hospital emergency rooms and entire hospitals, huge forest fires, devastating floods and mudslides, our young men and woman being sent overseas to fight in three foreign wars, and the solemn funerals of those brave men and woman who have paid the ultimate price being disrupted by insane activists targeting the hero's families, just to protest the way our Government respects the rights of Gay people. Our local, County, State and Federal Governments are all deeply in debt. Lay-offs, benefits and services are being cut off, and our country seems to be split in two, over political ideologies.
Staying InformedMany of us want to stay informed. However, when we go online or watch TV to get a better understanding of what is really happening, we are subjected to politically slanted viewpoints from both sides. We no longer just get the straight facts. Every news channel and talking-head seems to have their own view, opinion and ideology and is intent on spinning things their way. Slanted news is being force-fed to us constantly. We let ourselves be bombarded with stimuli, a nonstop stream of e-mails, chats, texts, tweets, status updates and video links to piano playing cats, In elevators, while standing in line at the bank, from digital displays on billboards, blimps overhead, and even over our cell phones.
Decisions are being made for us daily, which we don't understand. Other decisions we do understand, and know they are wrong. Many people have simply run out of options or have just given up. Homeless shelters are overflowing, and many people and some families are living in their vans or cars, or simply right on the street. Food Banks are being emptied.
Sometimes it seems like things are just spinning out of control.
Extraordinary Measures
Tumultuous times like these call for us to take extraordinary measures.
Well, five of us have done just that, taken an unprecedented step. Right here in Inglewood, California, which during better times had been referred to as "The City of Champions."We have organized ourselves into a Think Tank. Our iThinkTank consists of just five people. All of the members come from completely different backgrounds. We all have very different levels of experience, education, knowledge bases, and skill-sets. Thankfully, each member brings with them their own unique perspective.
We have decided to provide a service, and offer it to our SoCal community. We want to help the members of our community navigate their way through these complicated and troubling times.
iThinkTank combines good old-fashioned common sense with the power of a Think Tank's collective reasoning. And all that powerful intellectual energy is supplemented by the incredible technical power of today's computers, telecommunications systems, and the Internet.
We know that we cannot possibly solve all the problems facing our Inglewood neighbors. But as our Asian friends remind us: "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!"
How Can We Help You?
